Sunday Morning Reflection

Good Morning Boston & Main Readers,

I had a reflection recently about all the good that Boston & Main has brought me thus far and wanted to share and hopefully inspire some of you reading this. I took my Daughter to the beach yesterday and was snapping away for this account. I realized how much beauty I found in the littlest of things which ordinarily I wouldn't even bother to look at nonetheless take a picture of. And yes, I'm in the Northeast and it was cold so we bundled up and had a nice afternoon.

Boston & Main has allowed me to step back and find beauty in things I never would have even looked at. Sure, this account was set up to talk about "beauty" in skincare, cosmetics, food, luxurious travels, but it also can be found in thinhgs such as the shell of a crab or stingray or whatever I found yesterday. The way the trees curve over as you exit the boardwalk, or the rocks which dart out into the water that are gorgeous but very dangerous. Even a man who was on the beach with a metal detector. It all was beautiful to me and worth taking a second glance at.

I hope you all can take today and every day to try to find beauty in things which aren't at first glance beautiful. Enjoy your Sundays and every day and please feel free to reach out directly for anything at BostonandMain&gmail.com.

What are you thankful for?

Hi Boston & Main Readers!

It's a week before Thanksgiving and if you haven't begun to think about what you're thankful for, you better start. On a deep level I am thankful for my family, my health, having a wonderful roof over my head, good friends, etc...on a more superficial level, I am thankful for my skin!!!!

Today, after canceling and rescheduling, and convincing myself I wouldn't have to go, I went to my Dermatologist. It's very hard to take skincare advice from someone else when you often are giving it. I unfortunately had begun to develop some scar or mark from a pimple which had popped on it's own (I don't like to pop pimples) and I was worried I'd have a mark there forever.

So my Derm walks in and within seconds is convinced, "you have cystic acne." Well I have news for you, you're wrong, I don't, next question please. Turns out, I was correct, and I don't have cystic acne but regardless it got me to thinking, wow, you're freaking over one mark, be thankful you've never had a big pimple problem in life.

I see so many struggle and am very fortunate that I was blessed with good skin which I just maintain. So he perscribed some ointments to try to make the scarring go down and I'll keep you all posted.

Meantime, my big investment this season (whether my Husband buys it for me or not is the question) will be the La Mer soft cream. It is too yummy to not use and I think I save so much not doing injectables that what's a few hundred dollars for a cream.

I have recently begun using SO many new products which I'll blog about at a later date but for tonight, I wanted to use this time to let you all know that I do not for one moment take my skin for granted. I am utterly thankful for it.

Happy 1st Birthday Boston & Main

Good Evening Boston & Main Readers!

While blogging hasn't been the main focus of this past year, we've covered a lot in the way of beauty products, foodie favorites, and travel destinations on both Instagram and Facebook. I set out last year to create a  digital place that would make people feel good. It's my hope that I will be able to continue to provide thoughtful posts about ways we can feel better in life through inspiring words, places to go and products to try.

Life isn't always easy and at times we can feel lost, but whether it be visiting somewhere that puts us at ease, inhaling a relaxing bushel of lavender, or savoring our favorite sweet, there is always some way to make the day better.

Have a good night my friends and thank you for reading.

Choosing Your Signature Scent

Choosing your signature scent is just as important as the makeup you apply. Both stay on all day and leave a lasting impression. While I have collected quite a menagerie of fragrances over the years, each one can often be connected to a time in my life. When I was pregnant with my Daughter for example, I wore the Original Tory Burch Fragrance every day. Now, when I smell it, it reminds me all too well of first trimester.

So while many choose to stock up on their scents, there's always that one that they go back to, their signature scent.

For me, that scent is Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue. It's light, crisp and refreshing. This is an Eau de Toilette which means it has less oil and when it comes to purchasing a fragrance, an Eau de Toilette often tends to be less expensive.

This brings me to the next important part of choosing your scent. Do you want something strong or light. No one wants to walk into a room and overpower it with scent but some do you prefer something stronger. When that's that case, you want an Eau de Parfum.  These tend to be 10-20 percent oil.

Now that you've decided whether you want something lighter or heavier, it's time to choose your scent. When you get to that fragrance counter and have a zillion women swarming you with cards, I suggest you excuse yourself, grab three unscented cards and some coffee beans and make your way over to somewhere quiet where there aren't people spritzing everywhere.

First, start with a spray of something light and musky. This will be something that smells clean. Then, smell the coffee beans. This clears you up and gives you a blank slate to try again.
Second, try something either fruity or cirtrus. Then back to the coffee beans.
Last, you're going to go for your heavier fragrance. This can be your woodsy or smoky scent.

By this point, you're in fragrance overload and if you haven't found something you like,  I suggest giving your nose a break a bit.  But eventually, you'll find that scent. The one you can't get enough of. Just don't go crazy with spraying too much once you've found that scent. We'll go over where to spray your fragrance at a later date.

Have a SCENTsational day!

Beauty, Babies and a Better You

The daughter of a beauty salesman, at a young age I entered the world of cosmetics by attending trade shows with my Father. It's interesting that at the age of 3 what excited me wasn't the lipsticks or blushes, but the trade show itself. The energy of people on a selling floor hoping to grow their businesses all within a matter of days. I was hooked! I really didn't have a love of makeup or skincare until late into High School. I began working at a small local shop which sold cosmetics, skincare and fragrances and knew then it was a passion I would later pursue. I went on to sell fragrances, skincare, even got into medical sales for a bit, but at the end of the day, I too followed in my Father's foot steps and became a salesperson.

Now that some time has passed, I work in Corporate America, sales of course, but my greatest job is being a Mom and Wife. Being a Wife and a Mom to our daughter and two dogs has been so rewarding, however I do still yearn to educate those out there looking to know more about how to maintain or tackle skin problems as well as some of my new found accomplishments like all things Baby.

This will serve as a place to tackle skincare, cosmetics, fragrance, home, baby, and just being a better version of ourselves.

First things first. My absolute FAVORITE Product......Avene Thermal Spring Water

Now there's a story, and I feel I must share with you the legend of this amazing water. Avene is a small town in France, nowhere near Paris, but regardless it's a real place. A long time ago, legend has it that a man was taking his horse out to be shot because it had developed this terrible skin condition. The horse got away and later on was found, cured, drinking from the Avene Thermal Spring.

Another story, more recent and true, was that when the Chicago Fire occurred back in  1871, France shipped the water to Chicago for the burn victims.

So what makes this water so amazing? Well it has the perfect pH. And because of that, it was the perfect foundation to make a skincare line. And that's just what Pierre Fabre did. They have an entire line of products, all based off this perfect water.

Now the water in itself is amazing. It can be used to tone, cleanse, set makeup, etc....it's safe for all ages. It comes in three sizes and is available all over, so depending on where you're from you may even find it in your nearest drug store. Also great to bring to the pool when you're getting some Vitamin D but I must advise you, DO NOT SHAKE THE CAN. The can will lose it's ability to spray out the water and one day you'll have a can full of water and no air to get it out.

So there it is, my first product recommendation and a little bit about me.
